Colorado Legal Services Attorney, James Dean is spotlighted in a front page Denver Post article that describes the glitches in Colorado Benefits Management System and the frustration it is causing statewide.
Overworked and Underpaid
The CLS Migrant Farm Worker Division issued a report on the working conditions of Colorado sheepherders. The herders are temporary foreign workers in the United States under the H-2A program. The report based its conclusions on interviews of 93 herders over a two-year period. The report highlights some of the more oppressive conditions faced by the herders, such as no days off over the course of a year; no ability to leave the ranch; payment of wages less than once a month; no visitors; no access to a functioning toilet; and many more.
