Volunteer Spotlight - June 2007: Boulder County Legal Services Celebrates Pro Bono Service at the Annual Pro Bono Luncheon and Awards

In April of this year the Boulder County legal community gathered on April 25 to celebrate the outstanding pro bono service of the legal community at the BCLS annual Pro Bono Luncheon and Awards. Judges and magistrates of the 22nd Judicial District, Colorado Legal Services Exec. Director Jon Asher, Boulder County Bar Association and CO Bar Association representativies, and more than 100 attorneys and legal support staff attended.

Attorney Peggy Goodbody was the recipient of the 2006 John Marshall Award. This award was created in the 1980's to annually recognize a local attorney for his/her dedication, energy, and enthusiasm in undertaking volunteer legal service to the less fortunate of Boulder County. Congratulations Peggy!

Attorneys also received certificates for outstanding pro bono service as follows: 200-250 hours - Christina Ebner, Peggy Goodbody; 150-200 hours - Todd McMillen, MIke Ruderman, Tanya Shimer; 100-150 hours - William Benjamin, Maureen Espinoza, Gordon Gamm, Judson Hite, John Holmes, Taylor Pendergrass, Peter Shelley; 50-75 hours - Susan Bryant, Franz Frechette, Pat Furman, Brad Hall, Peter Jarldane, Sarah Keys, Barbara Lavender, Bill Meyer, Jennifer Motycka, Dena Nielsen, Rebecca Pescador, Scott Tippett, Adrian Villasenor, and Bruce Warren.

The law firms of Cooper, Tanis, Fuller & Cohen, Kapsak Law Firm, Ridgway, Romeo & Vincent, and Warren & Carlson were honored for 100% firm participation. The CU Legal Aid and Defender Program, under the direction of Professor Norm Aaronson, received a certificate for 530 pro bono hours.
