Position: Health Policy Attorney - Full Time
Mission
The Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP) is a 501c3 non-profit organization. CCLP's mission is to secure justice and economic security for all Coloradans. CCLP translates policy into action by applying its legal, programmatic and economic expertise to the following goals: (1) access to quality, affordable health care for all Coloradans; (2) family wellbeing and economic self-sufficiency and (3) development and adoption of responsible governmental fiscal policies. Specific objectives include coalition building, education, and legal, legislative and administrative advocacy.
Position Description
The Health Policy Attorney will work to advance health reform in Colorado. Specific duties include working to increase and protect access to public programs including Medicaid and CHP+. The Health Policy Attorney will engage in legal, legislative, and regulatory advocacy, undertake research projects, help to build and maintain coalitions, develop and make presentations to a wide range of audiences, and work as a team with CCLP staff and other health advocates. The position requires demonstrated skills in research and policy analysis and excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Current or anticipated license to practice law in Colorado required. Some litigation experience preferred.
The qualified candidate will have:
1. At least five years of relevant experience
2. Experience advancing a public policy agenda.
3. A strong health care policy background, including public and private health insurance programs.
4. Excellent research, writing and oral presentation skills.
5. Experience with detailed statutory and regulatory analysis.
6. Experience working collaboratively with broad range of stakeholders.
And will be:
7. Comfortable with and have experience making presentations to a wide range of audiences.
8. An independent and creative thinker and work well as part of a team.
9. Committed to working on behalf of low income individuals and families.
10. Capable of developing and maintaining relationships with a wide variety of key health stakeholders and constituencies.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with state and/or federal lawmakers
Strong coalition leadership and facilitation skills.
Spanish speaking.
Compensation and Benefits
The position is a full time position beginning in October 2011. The Health Policy Analyst reports to the Health Program Director. Salary range is $50,000-$65,000 depending on qualifications and experience. CCLP provides a generous benefits package.
