City and Court Officials To Reintroduce Denver Drug Court

Goal is to Speed Case Processing, Promote Treatment and Reduce Recidivism

Denver District Court Chief Judge Larry Naves, Mayor John Hickenlooper, District Attorney Mitch Morrissey and Councilman Doug Linkhart will join other civic and law enforcement professionals, including representatives of the Denver Crime Prevention and Control Commission and addiction treatment experts, to launch an updated version of the Denver Drug Court Thursday at 10 a.m. in Court Room 6 on the second floor of the City and County Building.
Graduates of Denver Drug Court also will be available for interviews.
The reinvigorated Denver Drug Court model is designed to dramatically speed processing in cases involving drug-addicted nonviolent offenders and to promote immediate assessment, intervention and treatment of offenders. Thirty-six percent of filings by the District Attorney's Office in 2006 involved drug-related cases.
