Child Support Cooperation Requirements and Public Benefits Programs: An Overview of Issues and Recommendations for Change

Child support cooperation requirements exist in a variety of public benefits programs. For the most part, these equirements apply to custodial parents or others who have the legal ability to assign support rights to the state and cooperate with the state in pursuing those rights. Only the Food Stamp Program (FSP) contains authorization for a child support cooperation requirement for both custodial and non-custodial parents.
