Judge Granger resigns from county court in Clear Creek County

Commission sets date to select nominees

The Fifth Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet on Monday,

April 24, 2006, to select nominees for appointment by the Governor to the office of county judge for Clear Creek County. The vacancy will be created by the resignation of the Honorable Russell Granger due to his appointment to the district court. The vacancy will occur on April 1, 2006.

To be eligible for appointment to fill the vacancy, the applicant must be a qualified elector of Clear Creek County and must have graduated from high school or attained the equivalent of a high school education as indicated by the possession of a Certificate of Equivalency issued by the Department of Education, based upon the record made on the General Education Development test. The current annual salary for this position is $68,583.45 and it is a 65 percent position. The initial term of office of a county judge is a provisional term of two years; thereafter, the incumbent county judge, if approved by the voters, has a term of four years.

The original and seven copies of the application must be filed with the ex-officio chair no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2006. Late applications will not be considered. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy may do so by letter to be submitted to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex-officio chair, no later than Friday, March 31, 2006.

Applications will be kept confidential, except that the nominating commission shall disclose the names, work addresses, and work telephone numbers of those nominees submitted to the Governor. The members of the nominating commission for the Fifth Judicial District are: Timothy Berry, Leadville; Donald Brown, Breckenridge; Heather Lemon, Vail; Mary Ann Miller, Leadville; Maria Cecilia Smythe, Leadville; Katalin Spangler, Edwards; and Peggy Stokstad, Evergreen.
